A Few Days in New York City

NYC.

The best avocado toast. Running into a good friend. A couple bad dates. Hand modeling?

This was my second trip to New York and the second time going solo. I think at this point it seems hard to imagine flying into JFK with people I know ;) It was absolutely FREEZING and for me to say that then you know it's true. It's no wonder then why the flight was so affordable. I used my ride or die, Google Flights, to score a direct round trip flight on Delta for around $350! The trip, the country, the city, the weather, and my mood determines whether or not I use public transportation to get to my accommodations or whether I take the lazy aka convenient but more expensive route which is an uber or taxi. It was raining and on the verge of snowing so I took an uber pool from JFK to Bushwick in Brooklyn. During rush hour the prices are surged but split between myself and the two other passengers it only cost me about $25. Well worth it. (I try to save ubers for moments where I just can't be bothered to finagle public transport: when it's super late, when i've had a lot to drink, really bad weather, and especially when I'm first arriving or departing for the airport. Lugging around luggage on public transport sucks.)

Since I travel solo, it doesn't make sense to spend the $$$ to rent an entire place out to myself, especially when I'm spending the bulk of the day not even at the house. So I always opt to just rent a private room via Airbnb. Something comfortable to come and hang out if I want to spend a night at home during the trip which happens occasionally. One night on this trip it was only 7 degrees outside so I got takeout and got in bed! This airbnb was an industrial style building that had a gym, rec room, movie theater, and grand piano that I was free to use. Eh, nice but not necessary to me.

I always make sure that wherever I am staying is close to the main lines of public transportation. Just makes it more convenient and safer. I was only a couple blocks from the M train. Which was awesome because it connects to other Brooklyn lines or can take you straight into Manhattan! I purchased a Metro card at the kiosk at the station and opted for the unlimited weekly or 7-day pass which I believe was around $35. I use the app, citymapper, to get around. 10/10 would recommend and would never leave home without it. I used it in London and Paris. It is so easy to use and makes navigating a city, even one you aren't familiar with, a breeeeeeze. Download it!

Met up with my friend and coworker Julio who happened to be in NYC on a solo trip of his own. It was so rad our trips overlapped by a couple days and could hang out. We spent the afternoon cruising around SOHO and checking out the shops.

I'm a dog person. Love em. Love dogs. But English Bulldogs are my dawggggs. I always am on the lookout for them and NYC has a ton. Bulldog heaven.

Picked up this beauty at the late Dylan Reider's shop, The Hunt NYC off Canal Street. Handcrafted men's signet ring.

I'm always down for something scenic and free. The Highline is an outdoor park ontop of old historic railroad tracks they've turned into such a nice walking path. Check it out. We went around dusk and it was brutally cold. The wind was whipping through the tall buildings nearby so getting hit by those wind tunnels made for our walk to be quite brief. I managed to grab a couple cool shots though.

We went out to a bar in the Village that night but the terrible weather made for a light crowd. hardly anyone was out and about which was weird for even NY.

We put our names in at Clinton Street Baking, which was recommended by a good friend. I had heard they have the best pancakes ever. I'm more of a waffle or french toast gal but breakfast lover nonetheless. So we spent our 45 min wait across the street at Blue Bottle Coffee. Even in 20 degree weather I'm known to get my coffee iced.

Ok, guys. You need to order this Brioche french toast with bananas foster and brown butter syrup. A MUST.

We went to go walk off our breakfast over the Brooklyn Bridge. It's a little over 1 mile to walk the whole thing.
